**BREAKING:** Aid deliveries through Kerem Shalom have been temporarily halted.

BREAKING:

Aid deliveries through the Kerem Shalom crossing, Gaza's primary humanitarian lifeline, have been paused.

The decision comes amid worsening security conditions:

  • For months, the road leading out of the crossing has been unsafe.
  • On November 16, a convoy of aid trucks was stolen by armed gangs.
  • Just yesterday, food trucks attempting to enter Gaza were seized.

This suspension occurs as hunger and desperation in Gaza reach critical levels. Humanitarian aid must never be subjected to such dangers or turn into a perilous ordeal.

The situation in Gaza has made aid operations nearly impossible due to:

  • The ongoing siege,
  • Restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities,
  • Political decisions limiting the quantity of aid,
  • Unsafe aid routes, and
  • Targeted attacks on local police maintaining order.

These factors have led to a breakdown of law and order.

As the occupying power, the State of Israel bears responsibility for ensuring the protection of aid workers and supplies. It must facilitate the safe, uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid and refrain from targeting humanitarian operations.

I renew the urgent call for a #ceasefire to secure safe and consistent delivery of aid to those in desperate need.

About UNRWA:
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) was established in 1949 to provide humanitarian assistance and protection to Palestine refugees. Operating in Gaza, the West Bank (including East Jerusalem), Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, UNRWA delivers services in education, healthcare, social support, infrastructure improvement, and emergency aid.

UNRWA is funded almost entirely through voluntary contributions and continues its mission to support refugees, nearly 75 years after the 1948 conflict displaced tens of thousands from their homes and livelihoods.
