**Health at a Glance: Europe 2024**  

The 2024 edition of *Health at a Glance: Europe* delves into the key challenges confronting European health systems in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The report features two thematic chapters addressing critical issues.  

The first chapter focuses on health workforce shortages in Europe, a persistent issue worsened by the pandemic’s strain on health systems. It analyzes the root causes of these shortages and suggests policy strategies to attract, train, and retain the workforce required to strengthen resilient health systems.

The second chapter examines recent trends in the health of Europe’s ageing population. With life expectancy rising and the proportion of individuals over 65 growing steadily, this chapter highlights priorities for promoting healthy longevity to ease pressures on health and long-term care systems.  

Additionally, the report provides a comparative analysis of health status, risk factors, and health system performance across 27 EU member states, 9 EU candidate countries, 3 European Free Trade Association countries, and the United Kingdom.
