Nickelodeon Greenlights New ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender
Animated Series, ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’Water, earth, fire, and air are set to unite once more as Nickelodeon announces a brand-new animated series in the beloved Avatar universe. Titled Avatar: Seven Havens, the upcoming series will feature 26 episodes and introduce a new Avatar, continuing the legacy of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender and its follow-up, The Legend of Korra.
The announcement comes as part of the 20th-anniversary celebration of the original series, which first premiered on February 21, 2005. Nickelodeon has big plans for the milestone, including fresh YouTube content, in-person events, and new books to delight fans.
A Fresh Chapter in the Avatarverse
The original series creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are once again at the helm of Avatar: Seven Havens, produced by Nickelodeon Animation’s Avatar Studios. The show’s initial run will be split into two “books” of 13 episodes each. While casting and a premiere date remain under wraps, excitement is already building.
“For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, envisioned by the original creators.”
Set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm, Avatar: Seven Havens follows a young Earthbender who learns she is the new Avatar after Korra. In this dangerous era, the title of Avatar marks her as humanity’s destroyer rather than its savior. Hunted by human and spirit enemies alike, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.
“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko shared in a joint statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”
A Multitude of Celebrations
The new series isn’t the only treat for fans. A feature film focusing on Aang, the main character from the original series, is slated for release in January 2026. Nickelodeon is also launching two new YouTube series on the Avatar: The Last Airbender channel, adding fresh content to the Avatar Legends YouTube channel, and preparing a special celebration for Comic-Con in San Diego later this year.
Additionally, Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert, featuring a live orchestra performing the show’s score, is currently touring internationally through May.
Meanwhile, Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series is set to continue for two more seasons, though DiMartino and Konietzko are not involved in that project.
Avatar: Seven Havens is executive produced by DiMartino, Konietzko, and Ethan Spaulding, with Sehaj Sethi serving as co-executive producer.
With its rich storytelling and immersive world-building, Avatar: Seven Havens promises to usher in a new era of adventure and discovery in the Avatarverse. Fans, old and new, should prepare for an epic journey through the Seven Havens!
