A small plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia

A small plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia resulted in multiple fires and casualties Friday evening. The incident occurred near Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard just after 6 p.m.

According to the FAA, a Learjet 55 had taken off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, heading to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri with at least two people on board when it crashed. Authorities confirmed the plane was on a medical mission at the time.

Witnesses described the scene as horrific. One person, who was driving nearby, said, "I was just coming to Wendy's when I saw the plane hit the building and explode. The sky lit up, and it was just really bad here."

The crash ignited a large fire, with several vehicles seen engulfed in flames. Firefighters and emergency responders rushed to the area, and both the FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.

The Philadelphia Fire Department advised residents to stay clear of the Calvert and St. Vincent streets area. In addition, a ground stop was issued at Northeast Philadelphia Airport due to the incident.

Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy is monitoring the situation, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has pledged support, coordinating with local officials and first responders while offering state resources to assist with the response.
